Disco is a 1970s dance-oriented pop music genre defined by a steady "four-on-the-floor" beat, syncopated basslines, lush orchestrations (strings/horns), and, increasingly, electronic elements. Emerging from underground Black, Latino, and gay clubs, it peaked in 1977, transforming dance music into a massive cultural phenomenon.
